Welcome to Season 2 of the Academy Insider Podcast. Academy Insider is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves midshipmen, future midshipmen and their families. At its core, this podcast is designed to bring together a community of Naval Academy graduates and those affiliated with the United States Naval Academy in order to tell stories and provide a little bit of insight into what life at the Naval Academy is really like. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much for listening and reach out if you ever have any questions. The Academy Insider Podcast is sponsored by the Vermeer Group, a residential real estate company that serves the United States Naval Academy community and other select clientele in both California and Texas. You can also reach out to me on my LinkedIn page, grant Vermeer, and I'd be happy to respond to you there. Thank you so much, and now let's get back to the episode. Hey everyone, and welcome back to Academy Insider. This is going to be a quick episode. I just want to take the time to thank everyone who listens to the Academy Insider podcast for your support. I've had such an incredible opportunity to get to meet some followers of the Academy Insider podcast and just this overall community all over the country from different parent club meetups to an opportunity to go to attend an event in Southern California at a golf tournament, and there's just so many different things that have been going on which have just been incredible. I just wanted to give again a quick heads up. Again, we're going to go a couple of weeks without publishing anything here as we prepare for what's going to be the start of the third season of the Academy Insider Podcast, as we prepare for this incoming class of Plebe Summer. But then on top of that, just from a complete personal note and this is where I really wanted to talk about it is that I have a great opportunity to spend some quality time with my wife before she prepares for deployment, and so I'm going to take this downtime to focus a little bit less on Academy Insider and spend some quality time with the person who's most important to me in the whole world, and so I'm excited about that. But I also do want to tease some amazing things that are going to be coming in the calendar year of 2025. We have some serious initiatives in the work to really give back to again the Naval Academy community and specifically midshipmen, future midshipmen and their families, and it'll hopefully be even a little bit more than just education, although you know, this is still going to be the core of what we do here, and so I'm really excited about the whole thing. If you have any again interest in helping out, any interest in volunteering or just, you know, want to shoot me a message, please do. You know my wife will be on deployment in 2025. So this is going to be a heavy work year for me once that time comes, and I'm excited to be traveling all across the country.
Speaker 1:I don't know if everyone knows this about me, but I'm also a basketball referee. I'm a I'm a basketball junkie. You know what I mean. I'm a basketball junkie. I absolutely love it and I needed a way to, a way to stay involved with the game, so I got into officiating and refereeing and so I'm actually a college basketball referee. So this summer I'm going to be traveling all across the United States, going to some different camps to try and continue to try and get hired into higher levels of basketball and officiate at the Division I level and so it's a long way to say I'm going to be all over the country this year for different events. So please reach out to me and let me know.
Speaker 1:And then always again this is just a call out that Academy Insider has been my passion project. I've self-funded this thing from the start, has been my passion project. I've self-funded this thing from the start and I've been blessed with some people who have decided to donate to Academy Insider, which is just incredible and I'm so grateful. And again, if you have the desire to donate, that would be incredible, just to help me with the operating costs of doing this. And then another way to support me again in this is that my actual day job, the way I make money, is through real estate. I run a residential real estate team in California and Texas, but I've really gotten into this community of helping and finding people specifically service academy graduates and their families, find the correct feel and agent for them all across the country.
Speaker 1:So if there's ever anything I can do to answer questions for you, get you connected with someone across the country, please reach out. Okay, that's how I'm able to make Academy Insider run is by the success that I have in my actual day job. So again, thank you so much. I really appreciate everyone. If there's ever anything I can do in the meantime, let me know.
Speaker 1:Otherwise, again, we're going to take a quick break for a couple of weeks and be ready to go in the spring for another incredible round of Academy Insider and another great year. So really looking forward to it. Thank you all so much and I hope you have a good day. Thank you so much for listening to this episode of the Academy Insider podcast. I really hope you liked it, enjoyed it and learned something during this time. If you did, please feel free to like and subscribe or leave a comment about the episode, to like and subscribe or leave a comment about the episode. We really appreciate to hear your feedback about everything and continue to make Academy Insider an amazing service that guides, serves and supports midshipmen, future midshipmen and their families. Thank you.
