Hey Grant, this is Lorianne and I'm from the Boston area. My plebe just told me he has CMOD. Can you explain what this means? As a mom, I'm a little worried.

Lorianne, thank you so much for your question and it doesn't surprise me that your plebs said it in a way with a little bit of disdain in their voice. That made you concerned. But don't worry, cmod is not any kind of disease or anything of the sort. Cmod is quite literally an abbreviation for Company Mate of the Deck CMOD Company Mate of the Deck and it is a watch position that the plebes will stand during their plebe year at the Naval Academy. If you want a little bit more insight into what watch is. When I use the term watch head to number episode three, number three of the Ask G series, where I do a little bit more of an explanation on watch. But CMOD is the Plebe Watch company made of the deck and basically they are in charge, they are the point of contact for anything that happens on the company deck space. Now when I use the term deck, that's what I'm referring to as the company space in Bancroft Hall. If you want a little bit of an explanation on the Bancroft Hall layout, I encourage you to go back and listen to an earlier Ask G episode about the Bancroft layout. And so, again, as the company made of the deck, they're in charge of everything that goes on in the area. They'll have to take tours of their company spaces and go walk around and make sure nothing's going on and everything's okay. If anyone ever enters onto their company space that they don't recognize, they're supposed to question them and basically make them provide identification that they actually are authorized to be in Bancroft Hall, et cetera. So it's an early stage and understanding of standing watch, which is a critical component of the military experience, and that CMOD term is the watch that pleads will stand. So I hope that makes a little bit more sense and please let me know if you ever have any follow on questions. Otherwise, thank you so much.
